Day 1. Arrival
Arrival at Montblanc. Welcome meeting with our English-speaking guide who will introduce you to the area and will give all the maps, tourist information and GPS you need for the hiking tour.
Day 2. The first monastery: Poblet
Distance: 10km | Total positive climb: +550m | Walking time: 3h 20min
Walk from the stunning village of Montblanc to the famous monastery of Poblet, enjoying the views from Sant Joan chapel, on top of an impressive canyon. You follow the GR-path (white and red paintings), walking past the Santíssima Trinitat, another chapel, and arrive at Les Masies, where your accommodation is located. From here you can decide to visit the Poblet monastery, which is about 10min away walking by the main paved road.
Day 3. Through olive orchards and vineyards
Distance to Vallbona: 8.5km | Total positive climb: +30m | Walking time: 2h 20min
Distance from Vallbona to Balneari de Rocallaura: 7.7km | Total positive climb: +200m | Walking time: 2h 15min
You will start the day with a 4x4 route at 9am from Les Masies to the Tallat monastery with a local guide. From El Tallat, the path descends gently to the village of Vallbona, where you will enjoy a wine tasting with picknick in the vineyards.
After the wine tasting and/or visiting the monastery, you continue the GR-path and, before arriving at the village of Rocallaura, you follow a path to your right towards your accommodation for the night.
Day 4. Into the mountains
Distance: 18.5km | Total positive climb: +400m | Walking time: 5h 30min
Today you venture into the Tallat mountain range, with some amazing views over the whole of Catalonia. You will walk past several villages, like Rocallaura, Belltall, Forès and Rocafort de Queralt. In Rocafort, leave the GR and turn north, walking by the cemetery to get to Vallverd village.
Day 5. The mediterranean lanscape
Distance: 16.3km | Total positive climb: +100m | Walking time: 5h
Today you will use the luggage transfer at 9am to the little hamlet of Vallespinosas and explore new territories away from the GR-path. A beautiful path takes you through pine forest and the wild and solitary countryside until you get to the village of Pont d’Armentera . There you join the GR-path that will lead you to Santes Creus, the last monastery of the Cistercian order.
Day 6. The last monastery: Santes Creus
No walking today, instead you have a relaxing day to visit the Monastery of Santes Creus, founded in 1160 and one of the most influential monastic domains of the Kingdom of Aragon. The history and architecture of the monastery make this extraordinary site a must to visit. After the visit our walking tour has come to an end. We recommend, however, to extend your stay and continue your journey to Tarragona, the historic seaside town.
Day 7. Tarraco Romana (optional)
Take your time to visit the Roman remains and old centre of Tarragona, a lively town with stunning beaches.
Every day all year round. Recommended from March to November.

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS
This hiking tour is suitable for experienced hikers who seek the “other” Spain, away from the more typical itineraries. Distances are small to medium, with some days a fair bit of climbing to do, although never too steep. The tour combines walking with wine tasting, cultural visits to some of the most impressive and best preserved monasteries of Spain, stunning mountain ranges and last but not least, the sites and beaches of the historic town of Tarragona. We would highly recommend this holiday to walkers who like to discover the culture, nature and cuisine of their destination. The short distances allow you to spend time in the villages, museums and monasteries.
