This easy cycling tour crosses Catalonia from the Pyrenees to the Costa Brava and has a wealth of cultural and natural heritage. A mosaic of different landscapes, beautiful mountain villages, the historic city of Gerona, endless forests, extinct volcanoes, fields of poppies, marshes, rivers and the beautiful rocky coast of the Costa Brava with its fishing villages, ... this route has it all! You start at 2000 meters altitude and gradually descend via a bike path to the Mediterranean, an unforgettable experience! You visit the Romanesque monasteries of Ripoll and Sant Joan de les Abadesses, cycle through the woods of La Garrotxa and the meadows of Gerona.

Day 1 WelcomeArrival at Setcases, a typical high mountain village where you will spend the night. **We offer a free transfer from the city of Ripoll to Setcases**. Ripoll is easy to reach by train from Barcelona. Before dinner you will meet with our local guide who will provide you with all the information, maps and GPS for the trip. If you have rented a bicycle with us, we will prepare it to fit your needs. Take your time to visit the village and its immediate surroundings. You will not find too many tourists here in this authentic and unknown part of the Pyrenees.

Day 2 The Pyrenees44.0 kmWe will transfer you and your bikes from Setcases to Vallter, a ski-resort, 11 km further up the mountain, at a height of 2000m. From there, surrounded by 3000m high mountains, you have an easy descent back to the village. You continue along a very quiet backroad along the valley and passed the beautiful villages of Villalonga, Llanars and Camprodón. Take your time to visit each of these villages, especially Camprodón. At the village of Sant Joan de les Abbesses you will cross the old Roman bridge and from hereon in you will take a cyclepath called "Via Verde del Ferro" all the way into Ripoll, of great cultural interest for the outstanding Romanesque monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll. Day 3 Land of volcanoes48.0 kmThe first 10 km of today´s route are the same as the previous day. As you arrive back at Sant Joan de les Abadesses, you turn right towards the Hill of Capsacosta (1,020 m.), the only big climb of the week. Through beautiful forest you will descend towards Olot, a small but lively town surrounded by several volcanoes that can be visited.

Day 4 El Carrilet - the old railway cycle path60.0 kmRoute from Olot to Girona along the Greenway (old railway), visiting the beautiful valley of La Vall d'en Bas, known as the “catalan Switzerland”, with its stunning scenery and typical villages such as Sant Privat d'en Bas and Hostalets d'en Bas. After the “Coll d’en Bas” (620 m) you will follow the Burgent river valley to La Cellera, where you reconnect with the river Ter, which continues to Girona, one of the most beautiful cities of Spain. Accommodation in the heart of Girona.

Day 5 Costa Brava and the Mediterranean Sea47.0 kmFrom Girona to the coast, you will follow the ancient railway called "El carrilet". You will reach Sant Feliu, with its wonderful seaport and a great cultural and historical interest. Accomodation in front of the sea, at the lovely beach of Sant Pol.

Day 6 The Costa Brava33.0 kmToday you will be cycling along the Costa Brava, following the Palamós bay until you reach the village of Calella de Palafrugell. You can can visit the most important villages in the area: Platja d´Aro and Palamós, with its interesting fishing port and its exquisite fishes. Take your time to stop at the beautiful beach of La Fosca or Es Castell. Accommodation in the old fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell, which still retains its original charm.

Day 7 Optional: the medieval villages38.0 kmFrom your hotel in Calella de Palafrugell, you cycle inland through the peaceful countryside. Along quiet backroads you cycle through meadows and pine forest, The medieval villages of Peratallada and Pals are hidden gems in the peaceful countryside where meadows, orchards, rice fields and pine forests are the backdrop. An ideal day for some slow cycling from village to village and tasting delicious tapas and wine.

TRANSPORT INFORMATION
With its airport and train station, Barcelona is the easiest way to travel to Catalonia. Gerona airport is a good alternative.
There is a direct bus from Barcelona Airport to Palafrugell (www.compras.moventis.es). The same bus service continues to l'Escala. There is also the regional train (R11) which has a good connection from the Barcelona Sants train station to the train station of Gerona and Figueres.
